Body pH Balance

Your body pH balance affects everything. Knowing and balancing your pH is a major step toward well-being, greater health and healthy hair. An imbalanced body pH can be at the root of many common symptoms such as constipation, poor digestion, aches and pains, heartburn, headaches, frequent colds, fatigue, and sleeplessness, to mention just a few.

The pH scale is from 0 – 14. General body pH of 7.0 is neutral. Below 7.0 is acid, above 7.0 is alkaline. To grow healthy hair, a general body pH of 7.0 is ideal for the purpose of general health and absorbing nutrients .

What you eat, drink and absorb will impact your body pH.

An acidic pH can occur from acid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients.  The body will try to compensate for acidic pH by using alkaline minerals.  If the diet does not contain enough minerals to compensate, a buildup of acids in the cells will occur.

An acidic balance will decrease the body’s ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients, decrease the energy production in the cells, decrease ability to repair damaged cells, decrease ability to detoxify heavy metals, make tumor cells thrive, and make it more susceptible to fatigue and illness.

To maintain health, your diet should consist of 60% alkaline forming foods and 40% acid forming foods.  To restore health, your diet should consist of 80% alkaline forming foods and 20% acid forming foods. Alkaline forming foods include: most fruits, green vegetables, lentils, spices, herbs, seeds and nuts.

The only way you can find out if you are acid, alkaline or correctly balanced, is by testing your pH.
